The proceeds of the 2002 golf tournament funded the following grants. We hope to do even more for the children of South Hadley this year!
Linda Bradley – Summer Reading Reflections will be a summer reading program offered to 80 children preparing for fourth grade. The program will include the use of journals and study guides for the books provided during this five week session.
Anne Farnsworth and Lisa Curtain – The Craft of Writing – A grant will be provided to help support a two day interactive visit by celebrated children’s author Ralph Fletcher. This author will read to and work with children from each grade level.
Pat Auth and Deborah Rist – Enrichment Programs for Mosier School – funding will be provided for a wide variety of enrichment, gifted and talented programs for the students of all grades. Increased support will be provided for Invention Convention and the annual Science Fair. In addition, 6 groups of students will experience topic related enrichment groups for 10 weeks
Lisa Stebbins Manzi – Robo-Adventure – This robotics unit will enhance the current sixth grade curriculum and challenge students to create tools to measure distance and time, collect and interpret data, and calculate speed and area. All sixth grade students will be impacted by this grant.
Nancy Kulewicz – Perkins Institute for the Blind will host a small group of special needs students for a day. These students have studied Helen Keller and Anne Sullivan through their reading of The Miracle Worker. This is a unique opportunity for these students to visit blind students who have overcome adversity. As this was the school where Helen Keller “found her voice,” the experience will be very enriching.
Erica Faginski and Allison Rebello – Accelerated Math is a software based mathematics assessment program which will be piloted with 75, fifth grade students. The students are able to monitor their achievement of objectives and continue ahead when mastering the curriculum at each level at his/her individual pace.
Brook Beaulieu – Accelerated Reader software, a computerized curriculum software system, is used to dramatically accelerate student reading growth. This software offers 700 reusable quizzes which work with specific books already housed within the library, covering all grades of the Middle School.

an after school program funded by HEC, this grant will provide the materials
for the students to build a working model of the
Pamela Hunter and Tina Montagna – High School Poetry Project – Juniors and seniors will experience two live performances by Belinda West, professional actress, acting as Emily Dickinson and the senior class will attend Shakespeare and Co.’s production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream. These events are the culmination of a year of study of poetry and part of a much larger celebratory month.
EveLynn Werling – Canal Gallery, in Holyoke, will host nine monthly classes for high school art students. Students will work with local artists, learning new techniques, which will be brought back to the classroom and be displayed throughout the school.
