Congratulations –

Maureen McNally – “Critical Mass” at the UMass Fine Arts Center – In addition to exposure to this performance, the music department will build a curriculum around the concept of music as it relates to architecture and sculpture. The classes will compose a new musical piece inspired by these elements, to be performrd for the student body. See massensemble.com for a glimpse at what these students will experience. Nancy Jessup – “Family Culture Night” – supplemental materials to expand the program – American Cultures for Children videos and book collection. (Plains School)

Norma McCain – “Digital Blue QX5 Microscopes” – Six microscopes compatible for connection directly to the PC through a USB port for specimens magnification to 200 times and projected onto the computer screen or overhead. (All 5th Grade Science Teachers)

Melissa Manoogian – “Elementary Art Club” – Creation of an after school art program in order to expand upon the basic art principles. Figure drawing, sculpture, large scale paintings will be explored. (Mosier School)

Silvia Cooley – “Forensic Law” – Provide skeleton model, kits for fiber, blood, fingerprint and handwriting analysis, transportation to outside crime lab, provide for a professional speaker for this newly developed course. (11th/12th Grade)

Amy Riddle – “Viva Mexico!” – Funding for additional materials for the second year of this interdisciplinary unit of Spanish and Social Studies. The culminating project is a reenactment of the Mexican-American War and a cuisine and culture display. (Middle School 8th Grade)

Deb Vanderpoel – “Massachusetts in the American Revolution Theatre Enrichment” – With the direction of Priscilla Kane Hellweg, artist in residence, the students will research and create a historical presentation to be performed for the 3rd grade. All research, writing and creation of props will be performed by the students. (3rd Grade Mosier)

Tracy Farnham – “9th and 10th Grade Short Story Field Trip” 300 students will experience the Chamber Theatre Production in Boston of short stories read within the class curriculum. (High School)

Tracy Farnham – “9th Grade Romeo and Juliet Field Trip” 200 students will attend the TheaterWorksUSA traveling production at the Mechanics Hall in Worcester. Original text is recreated in an urban waste land providing the students a new adaptation to the original play that they read within their curriculum. (High School)

Jennifer Yellin – “Leap Frog Technology Integration” – The Leap Frog technology will be provided to support curriculum on an individual basis, allowing students to work at varying levels and paces. (Grade 3, Mosier School)

Sheryl Jaffe - “Outdoor Art Laboratory- Greening South Hadley High School” 100 art students and 75 science students will collaborate on the design and creation of an outdoor art laboratory garden. The garden will be used for writing, drawing and poetry writing inspiration, sculpture students will learn about landscape architecture and design, art and science students will harvest, cook, beat or blend fibrous plants to create paper which will be made into clothing, books and scrolls. The garden will be maintained by students. (High School)

Angela Burke – “The Six Traits or the 6+1 Trait Model” will provide teachers and students with the tools of the model which utilizes ideas, organization, voice, word choice, sentence fluency, conventions and presentation to create quality writing. (5th Grade Middle School)
